Roberts Academy at Mercer University

A Transition School for Children with Dyslexia, Grades 2-5

Opening Fall 2024

(A new website with additional information will be launching soon)

Modeled after the very successful Roberts Academy at Florida Southern College, the Roberts Academy at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, is a transitional school for children with dyslexia.

The Mission of the Roberts Academy at Mercer University is to prepare students with dyslexia to achieve academic success through dynamic educational programs. The Roberts Academy at Mercer University will teach a comprehensive curriculum initially designed for grades 2 through 5 using the Orton-Gillingham approach, a specialized learning method clinically proven to help students with dyslexia. Operationalized in the Academy’s classroom, the Orton-Gillingham approach engages students in action-oriented learning that combines auditory, visual, and kinesthetic elements to teach basic concepts of reading, writing, and spelling across the curriculum. Students attend the Roberts Academy at Mercer University until they have mastered the skills to accommodate their learning differences and are prepared to succeed in a traditional school setting.
