Since 1993, she has taught in both public and private schools from kindergarten through college, in addition to having her own private tutoring business.
Having a daughter with dyslexia prompted Kelea to learn more about how to meet the needs of students with language-based learning differences. She chose to homeschool her daughter beginning in third grade using the Orton-Gillingham approach.
Since then, Kelea has become an Associate with the Orton-Gillingham Academy and is currently working towards the Certified level. Her daughter went on to graduate at the top of her interior design class at Anderson University and is now designing commercial spaces in Atlanta. The OG approach works!
Kelea is married to her college sweetheart, Scott, and is the proud mother of two adult daughters. She shares her home on Lake Sinclair with her two spoiled cats, Miss Lib and Miss Lucy.
When Kelea is not teaching, she loves spending time with her family. She enjoys gardening, traveling, cooking gluten-free desserts, watching UGA football and Atlanta Braves baseball, and playing WORDLE.
Kelea encourages her students to persevere no matter how difficult the circumstances. A favorite Walt Disney quote of hers is, “Everyone falls down. Getting back up is how you learn how to walk.” One of Kelea’s greatest joys is lending students a hand to help them get back up and learn to walk through life with confidence.
