David Robertson

Physical Education Teacher

Mr. David Robertson is an Instructor of Health and Physical Education in the Tift College of Education at Mercer University.

He holds a Master of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, a Master of Arts from Eastern Kentucky University, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Louisville. He is currently pursuing a terminal degree at West Virginia University with a focus in Coaching and Teaching Studies, specifically in physical education teacher education.

Prior to joining Mercer University, Robertson served as an instructional assistant for the middle school at St. Aloysius School. He brings over eight years of teaching experience at the K–12 level, specializing in health and physical education, and more than 15 years of experience teaching at the university level with a focus on physical education and teacher education.

His research centers on pre-service physical education teachers and their perspectives on university preparation for teaching certification, including the completion of edTPA or other state or national requirements. He is also interested in curriculum models such as the tactical games model and their impact on teaching and learning in physical education and sport settings. Robertson has authored five publications, delivered 10 presentations at national and state conventions, holds three professional memberships, and serves on the editorial board of a professional journal.

He is currently working on his doctorate at West Virginia. His research is on persisting with national assessments.
