About Roberts Academy at Mercer University

Roberts Academy is Georgia’s only transitional school for children with dyslexia outside of Metro Atlanta. It’s also the most affordable school of its kind in the state.

The Academy uses the Orton-Gillingham Approach – an evidence-based method of teaching reading, writing, and spelling proven to work for students who face the learning challenges often associated with dyslexia.

Because all children who attend the Academy have a dyslexia diagnosis, students will feel an instant sense of belonging. This sense of community, combined with academic success, quickly leads to improved confidence and self-esteem.

Students attend the Academy until they have mastered the skills to accommodate their learning differences and are prepared to succeed in a traditional classroom setting.

A Gift of Accessibility: The Roberts Academy at Mercer University Story

Roberts Academy at Mercer University is made possible through a historic and life-changing gift from philanthropists Hal and Marjorie Roberts. Driven by their passion to support dyslexic children and their families, their gift ensures tuition and fees at Roberts Academy remain the most affordable among specialized dyslexia schools in Georgia.

The average cost of tuition among dyslexia schools in Georgia is more than $27,000 annually. In contrast, Roberts Academy’s annual tuition is less than a third of this cost. That’s a significant relief for Georgia families seeking specialized education for their dyslexic children.

Fees at Roberts Academy: Uniforms & Friday Fun Lunch

Students at the Academy are required to wear uniforms. Each piece (polos, shorts, pants, skorts, etc.) average at about $30 a piece. Hoodies, sweatshirts, and jackets will also be available for purchase.

Students are also required to bring their own lunches Monday-Thursday. However, on Fridays, the school will faciliate Friday Fun Lunch. Families are responsible for providing the funds for these lunches.

Additional fees, including those for field trips and spirit shirts, will also arise throughout the school year.

Georgia GOAL Scholarship

Roberts Academy is also a Georgia GOAL Scholarship School.

This needs-based program provides tuition scholarships to children aspiring to attend independent K-12 schools, and eligibility criteria ensure that deserving students have access to the financial support they need to thrive in an environment tailored to their learning needs.

To qualify for a GOAL scholarship, a student must be a Georgia resident who is currently enrolled in and has attended a Georgia secondary or primary public school for at least six weeks immediately before receiving a scholarship or tuition grant under this law or who is eligible to enroll in qualified Pre-K4 Kindergarten, or 1st-grade program.
